HTML5 and Standards.Next

Following on from @media 2009 this year was a free event organised by Bruce Lawson and Henny Swan at the inimitable Bricklayer’s Arms just round the corner from Tottenham Court Road. HTML 5 was the topic of this inaugural Standards.Next meeting with an impressive array of speakers and content:

  • Bruce Lawson with “HTML5: Are you mything the point?” (video / slides).
  • Remy Sharp presented “HTML5: JavaScript APIs” (video / slides).
  • Dean Edwards and the awesome “HTML5.js” (as if we don’t owe him enough already for IE7.js) (video).
  • Martin Kliehm showed off the HTML5 Canvas element (video / slides).
  • Steven Faulkner rounded the meeting off with HTML5 Accessibility and WAI-ARIA support (slides).

There’s never been a better time to take the plunge with HTML5 and Bruce ended the day by announcing HTML 5 Doctor to help you implement HTML5 today. A collaboration of a bunch of cool people including Rich Clark, curator of HTML5 Gallery, I want to wish everyone good luck with this project and extend my thanks to all the speakers, organisers and attendees for a great meetup. Thank you.
