Framework update
Apologies to everyone in RSS land I’ve updated the CSS framework post so you’ll get that post and this one telling you of the changes. Essentially, I have added some basic version information to each file, including the downloadable .zip and more interestingly added some vertical rhythm to the headings and paragraphs based on Richard Rutter’s excellent “24 ways” post. My CSS Framework
I’m in the situation of working with a Microsoft Content Management System (CMS) that for not unsurmountable reasons is configured to use a single style sheet. On the last project—a major intranet development—I also spent longer than I felt I needed to in implementing a three-column fluid layout where the two outer columns where of fixed width. I already employ good Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) management practises—separate CSS files for colour, fonts and layout but I promised myself to ease the pain and quicken development still further by developing my own CSS framework. Bulletproof Web Design Book Review
Another fine book from Dan Cederholm. This time around he divvies a typical web page down to its components — text, navigation, boxes and rows and the layout itself and explains and demonstrates the most bulletproof way of implementing them in a standards-compliant way. Continue reading
